THE MATERIAL / LESSON NOTES

What did you teach?

Separation of mixtures

A mixture contains substances that are physically combined.

Sand can be separated from water by filtration.

The sand stays in the filter. The water passes through.

Start with clear explanations and examples from your own lesson.

THE DRAFT / MULTIPLE CHOICE

Turn an idea into a question.

Which method separates sand from water?

  • A Filtration
  • B Using a magnet
  • C Chemical decomposition
  • D Mixing

Edit the wording, answer and marks to suit the class you actually taught.

06 / GOOD QUESTIONS

A little clarity.
Before you begin.

What can I make with TermQuill?

Prepare an exam or class test, edit the questions and marking guide, add visual tasks, and print separate copies. Try the hand-authored example first.

Does this work for Nursery and Kindergarten?

Yes. The Early Years paper style supports larger questions, counting pictures, matching, tracing, tables and drawing spaces. A teacher should still check language, difficulty and printed size.

Do I need to register a school?

No. Sign in for a personal workspace. You do not need to create or join a school. Use School workspace when you want departments, colleagues, version history and independent review. Staff email delivery has pilot limits.

Can learners take an online exam here?

The current pilot helps adult educators prepare assessments. Student sign-in, online submissions and automatic grading are not included.

Is an AI-generated answer guaranteed to be correct?

No. Structural checks can flag mark totals, duplicates and quotes missing from your notes. Review factual accuracy and suitability before giving a paper to students.

Where do my notes and papers go?

Generating sends notes to Google’s hosted model service. Personal drafts save in this browser for your signed-in account. Sending to a school uploads your paper and notes to that school’s workspace. Avoid student records and confidential exam material during the pilot. Read our privacy policy.

A LITTLE HELP BEFORE YOU BEGIN

A faster first draft.
Your standards, throughout.

TermQuill helps with preparation. You decide what belongs in the classroom.

Create my first paper →

Build a visual paper.

Choose the Early Years example, or generate with an Early Years / Primary paper style. In Edit & review, open Pictures, tables & answer spaces for each question. Add original line illustrations, exact counting objects, tables, matching columns, tracing outlines, drawing boxes or writing lines.

PNG/JPEG uploads are compressed on your device and embedded in the saved paper. Use pictures you own or have permission to use. Check the picture description and captions do not reveal the answer. Pictures are not sent to the AI for recognition.

Use Paper layout & header for a school name, logo, exam heading and reading size. Marks & section sets each question’s marks and can start a named section with its own instructions. Reorder or duplicate questions, then check their wording and marks. Preview both copies. Use a new printed page for a large question, and check the print preview before giving the paper to children.

Counting and matching answer keys follow the visible objects and pairs. This does not prove age suitability or that the task matches your lesson. Tracing outlines are practice guides, not a handwriting curriculum.

01

Bring the lesson you taught.

Paste notes with clear definitions, examples and explanations. Choose a subject and class level, then set the question count, format and marks.

For format or thinking level, choose Describe my own to enter instructions in your own words. Custom preferences guide the AI; review that they were followed. Start with 3–6 questions. More questions need richer notes and can take longer to generate. Questions are worth equal marks; marking points divide those marks.

02

Read the answer and its evidence.

In Edit & review, check that each answer is correct, the question is clear, and the quote actually supports it. You can change wording, options, expected answers and marking points.

A quote appearing in your notes does not prove the answer is correct. The checks catch counts, exact duplicates and mark totals, not every factual or teaching mistake.

03

Save a draft you can reopen.

Choose Save on this device. My drafts keeps up to 30 assessments. Reopening a paper resets its approval so you review it before using it again.

Download JSON for an editable backup. Import that file on My drafts when you want to use another browser or device. Use School workspace for accounts, shared departmental papers and independent approval.

04

Print the right copy.

Confirm that you reviewed the paper, then choose Student paper or Marking guide. Print / PDF opens your browser’s print dialog, where you can save a PDF.

The student view omits the teacher answer blocks. The marking guide includes answers, point allocations and source quotes. Any edit resets your review confirmation.

What happens to my notes?

Generating sends your notes and settings to Google’s hosted Gemma service. Avoid student names, grades and confidential records. Generation does not save your lesson notes. Sending a paper to School workspace stores its notes and questions in your school’s database.

A saved draft includes your notes in this browser’s storage or exported JSON. Removing a saved draft does not delete files you already downloaded.

When generation fails

The app retries a temporary server error once, then can try another Gemma model. Both use Google, so a provider-wide outage may affect both.

Quota, access and timeout messages have different codes. Keep the error reference if you need help. Your previous open paper is preserved when a new generation request fails.

THE SCHOOL WORKSPACE / A WALKTHROUGH

Bring your school in, one step at a time.

A school workspace is a shared area for adult educators. The principal manages its teaching teams; teachers prepare papers; department heads review them. If you only want to make a personal assessment, you can keep using Create assessment without this setup.

  1. Create your school.

Sign in to School workspace with a verified email. Choose Create a school, enter the school’s name and save. The person who creates it becomes the principal for that workspace. This does not verify the school’s ownership.

  2. Create your first department.

Open School papers or Departments & people. Choose Create your first department. A name field will open. Enter a recognisable team name, such as Science or Primary school, then choose Save department. The name appears in Your departments and becomes available when adding papers or inviting colleagues.

If you cannot see the button, check the selected school and the role beside its name. Only its principal can add departments. A teacher or department head needs to ask the principal for help.

  3. Request a school identity check.

Open School trust & activity. Supply a public school reference and explain your authority to represent the school. The platform operator checks these independently. You can prepare the workspace while waiting, but new staff invitations require verification. A checked identity is not accreditation or a security certification.

  4. Invite a colleague.

In Departments & people, enter the email your colleague will sign in with. Choose Teacher for someone preparing papers, or Department head for someone who should also review colleagues’ work. Select the department and create an invitation link.

Share that link privately with the colleague. It is tied to their email, works once and expires after seven days. The app does not send the link for you. Verification email delivery is limited during the pilot; the platform owner needs to configure wider email delivery before school-wide signup.

  5. Add a paper to the right department.

Use Create assessment to prepare a paper. Choose Send to school, select its department and confirm. This stores the questions, answers and source notes in your school workspace. If you already downloaded a TermQuill backup, use Restore a downloaded paper in School papers instead.

  6. Ask for another person’s review.

Open your paper and choose Submit for review. That saved version is locked while a department head or principal checks it. The reviewer cannot be the person who wrote it.

The reviewer opens Marking guide to see answers and source evidence. A comment keeps the review open. Request changes returns it to the author for editing. Approve makes that specific checked version available to the department.

  7. Improve it without losing the record.

When changes are requested, read the feedback, edit and save a new version, then submit again. Editing an approved paper creates a new draft while keeping the earlier approved copy. Version means a saved snapshot, not a new subject or class.

YOUR REUSABLE TEACHING MATERIAL

Your question bank.

Keep questions by subject, class, topic and term. Choose 3–20 from the same subject and class to build a new paper.

Import adds new questions and keeps your existing bank. Backups contain answers and source notes.

Build a paper

Questions follow the order you select them. Sections and page breaks can be arranged in the editor.

    Start from instructions, without notes.

In Assessment source, choose Instructions / topic. Select an education stage from Nursery / Kindergarten through postgraduate or adult education, specify the exact class or course, and describe the scope. Use an example for your stage to get started. The model uses general knowledge without browsing. Check answer rationales independently; they are not verified source quotes. The same visual editor, question bank, school review, logo upload and printing tools remain available.

Exam, test or fresh questions from your past work.

In Create assessment, choose Exam or Test. These are paper presets; they do not start an online timed test. Under Assessment source, choose Past questions to select saved questions from this browser. No new notes need to be pasted: their retained original lesson notes provide the evidence for new AI questions. Select 1–10 references from the same subject and class. Generation still needs an internet connection and available provider quota.

    Reuse a question.

In Edit & review, choose Save question to bank. Add a topic and optional term, then confirm you checked the question, answer and evidence. Question bank stores up to 50 questions on this browser, with source notes and visuals. Export a backup to move or recover them on another device.

Select 3–20 questions from the same subject and class, in the order you want. Give the new paper a title and duration, then create it. The new device draft keeps answers and source evidence, but needs its own sections, heading and review. The bank does not represent school approval.

Review school versions and reuse approved work.

On a school paper, use What changed between versions to inspect accessible copies. Feedback appears beside the question it refers to. An independent reviewer checks each question and confirms the review before approving. Check progress belongs to that reviewer, version and tab; it is not an approval itself.

School question bank lists approved copies your account can read. Select questions and create your own new draft, with source credit retained. The source approval does not approve the new paper. Open approved-copy links when you need the version that was checked.

    Check your printed paper.

Print / PDF becomes available after review. Student paper and Marking guide print separately. Page-number footers use browser paged-media support; current Chrome supports this. Disable the browser’s own Headers and footers to avoid a second footer. Always inspect the print preview, especially section headings, images and page breaks.

Assistance, with accountability. Automated checks catch structural problems, not every factual mistake. A real quote can still be used incorrectly. Review before giving a paper to students.

    FROM NOTES TO PAPER

A small tool for a busy teacher.

    1. Choose lesson notes, saved past questions or instructions / topic, then set your class and assessment settings.

    2. Gemma drafts questions with verbatim supporting quotes for note-based sources, or answer rationales for topic-only briefs. The app checks counts, formats, answer fields and marks, then retries once if needed.

    3. Edit and review each question. Confirm the review, then print the student paper and marking guide separately.

The sample is hand-authored, not a live AI response. Hosted generation needs the owner’s server-side API configuration. No payments or subscriptions are collected in this pilot.

Notes are sent to Google when you generate. Device saving is optional and uses this browser’s local storage. Sending a paper to School workspace stores its source notes and questions in the school database. Clearing a device draft does not delete school copies or downloaded files.
